VAN (Value Added Network)

Refers to a network with added value, i.e. network, which, in addition to its usual purpose – data transmission, offers additional services.

In EDI communication it is typically a guarantee of provision of unbiased information to a recipient. The main role of a VAN operator is secure distribution of standard mail and messages. Additionally, the operator functions as the provider of a converter and communication software for connection to the VAN network.

Converter and communication software, in this case, still remain on the client side, including the related purchase costs and costs associated with their administration.
